COMMENTS

To start training, the best way is to participate in an experimental class, where you will learn the basics of sword training and get to know the drills and the group.

Ideally, it comes with a T-shirt and sweatpants.
Sword and/or staff will be borrowed from us.

If you want, you can also come just to watch the training. But we recommend that you participate in the training, to get a feel for the class.

At Niten, we train three modalities.

KENJUTSU

The class is divided into two parts:
Kata and Bogu.
- Kata
Sequences of blows created by Samurai up to 600 years ago.
They are practiced in pairs with Bokuto (wooden sword).
-Bogu (protective armor)
In this part of the class, students learn to apply the techniques.
Students who are starting and not yet using bogu are trained in the application of the techniques to soon start using bogu.

IAIJUTSU

It is practiced in the form of katas
These kata can be against an imaginary opponent or with another teammate.
More advanced students do training with metal swords.
Beginners practice with bokuto (wooden sword)
Beginner students gain familiarity with the sword and after the initial period start practicing with metal sword as well.

JOJUTSU

Jojutsu training is divided into Kihon and Kata training.
In the Kihons everyone practices the fundamental techniques together
In the kata part, the students train the sequences created by the samurai.
In addition to the stick, we also practice other weapons:
-Jitte (weapon used by samurai who had the function of police),
-Kusarigama (scythe with chain)
-Tanjo (short bat).

GOLDEN MOMENTS

In the experimental class, as in all other training sessions, Sensei or the coordinator does the Golden Moments at the end.
It is the time when students learn more about samurai thinking and Japanese culture.
Concepts such as Discipline, Self-Control, Concentration and Stress Control are approached from a samurai perspective and students learn how to fit the sword's teachings into their daily lives.

In the experimental class, you can stay until the end of training or, if you prefer, less time (for example, 40 minutes).
We recommend that you arrive 5-10 minutes before your workout, so that you can enter with ease and participate in the stretch.

For information regarding fees for classes and materials, see your unit's HotSite on the LOCATIONS page.
